Abstract/Description: | Micro-level water resources development in a 3.2 ha micro-watershed area was done by tank cum well system and irrigation to mango plants was done by harvested rainwater. Intercropping of guava, pineapple and lemongrass was done in the mango orchard and it did not have any adverse effect on the main crop mango. Water conservation in the mango plants were done by conservation trench, paddy straw mulching or both and comparative study of water conservation systems was done. Conservation trench along with application of mulch was the best treatment followed by ‘mulching only’ and ‘conservation trench only’ treatments respectively. The water in the conservation trench was retained for about 10 days after monsoon season, hence were effective for rainwater management upto a certain extent. |
