Abstract/Description: | An experiment consisting of three crop establishment methods (conventional till - direct seeded rice, conventional till - wet direct seeded rice and zero till - direct seeded rice) in the main plots and five zinc fertilization [(control, 3 kg zinc ha - 1 (basal application), 3 kg zinc ha - 1 (foliar application), 6 kg zinc ha - 1 (basal application) and 6 kg zinc ha - 1 (foliar application)] in the sub - plots was undertaken in a split - plot design with three replications at Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi during Kharif season of 2017 - 18. Soil samples after harvesting of rice were collected and analyzed for available nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potash (K) and zinc (Zn). Crop establishment methods significantly (P=0.05) influenced only available Zn in the soil whereas Zn fertilization influenced significantly available N and Zn. Results revealed that among crop establishment methods, zero till - direct seeded rice observed higher available N (195.70 kg ha - 1), P (22.67 kg ha - 1), potash (221.21 kg ha - 1) and Zn (0.662 ppm). In case of Zn fertilization, 3 kg Zn ha - 1 (foliar application) was proved superior over rest of the treatments with respect to available N (194.88 kg ha - 1), P (22.78 kg ha - 1) and K (222.77 kg ha - 1). However, 6 kg Zn ha - 1 (basal application) was judged better for available Zn (0.774 ppm). Based on the results, it is said that zero till - direct seeded rice and 3 kg Zn ha - 1 (foliar application) was found better for available N, P and K in the soil under direct - seeded rice. |
