Abstract/Description: | This article was conducted to determine preweaning performance of Large White and Yorkshire crossbred piglets born during the first and second farrowing under hot and humid climate of Assam, India. A total of 28 farrowings were recorded and the birth weights and body weights of piglets at 35 days old were measured. The litter size at birth (LSB), litter weight at birth (LWB), litter size at weaning (LSW), litter weight at weaning (LWW), individual weight at birth (IWB), individual weight at weaning (IWW) and growth rate (GR) of the piglets were analysed. Results revealed that the overall LSB and LSW were 7.11±0.43 and 6.95±0.44, respectively. The LWB and LWW were 8.94±0.46 and 55.36±2.46 kg, respectively. The IWB and IWW were 1.31±0.04 and 8.20±0.29 kg, respectively. It was observed that parity showed significant effect on LSB, LSW, LWB, LWW, IWB, IWW and GR of piglets. It is suggested that performance traits are better in second parity piglets |
