Abstract/Description: | Developing of high oleic safflower cultivars: Total 341 F5 families were morphologically characterized as well advanced to next generation. All F5 families maintained genetic uniformity. Oleic and oil contents: Of 341 F5 families, 195 were tested for oleic content; 81 of these had high oleic content ranging from 72.37 - 81.86%. Among 81 high oleic F5 families, three had oleic content ranging from 72.37-72.81%, five possessed 74.32-74.98 oleic content, eight had 75.19-75.97% oleic, 11 families possessed 76.11-76.98 oleic, 16 families had 77.03-77.92% oleic, 16 other families had 78.07-78.98% oleic, 13 possessed 79.09-79.87% oleic, six families had 80.27-80.85% and three families possessed 81.1-81.86% oleic content while the check A1 had 14% oleic content. In addition, three F5 families recorded 60.73, 64.52 and 69.73% oleic content, 16 F5 families recorded 40.54-56.89% and 24 F5 families recorded 30-39% oleic content. In addition to oleic content, oil content was also assayed in 385 F5 families. Oil content ranged from 16.8 to 40.24%. Thirty five F5 families recorded 32-40% oil content. |
