Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheHadagimadarasub-watershedasrecordedfromtheHathakunistationdata. 80%,12%and8%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablecondition. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis31mmforanaverageannualrainfallof830mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(179mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis260(=179+31+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis510mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas638mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby378mm,i.e.(638-260).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly47%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason.
