Abstract/Description: | Jute is the second most important fibre yielding annual plant, next to cotton, cultivated in tropical regions of the world. It is mainly grown in the South-East Asian countries like India, Bangladesh, Nepal, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and some South American countries. The lower gangetic delta contributes more than 80% of total production of jute in the world. Beyond its traditional uses, jute has gained importance in production of diversified value added products which earn more than Rs 2400 crores per annum and the trend is increasing. |
