Abstract/Description: | An experiment was undertaken during the year 2005 in the districts Kamoor, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Gaya, Jahanabad, Patna, Ara and Bhojpur in Bihar state and Palamu (Daltanganj), Garhwa and Chatra of Jharkhand state. Thirty-six bael genotypes having wide range of variability in morphological and fruit characters were identified and 17 accessions are found promising. The morphological characters varied, fruit weight (0.859-1.964 kg), fruit length (7.63-19.86 cm), fruit circumference (29.66-48.33 cm), number of seed per fruit (32.00-97.66), number of seed sacs per fruit (8.66-22.66), skull weight (0.177-487 kg), skull thickness (1.83-3.33 mm), TSS (33.0-48.0°B), acidity (0.32-0.54%), vitamin C content (10.00-20.20 mg/100 g pulp), total carotenoids (0.94-2.48 mg/100 g pulp), total sugars (17.85-25.72%), reducing sugars (8.38-11.38%) and tannin content (3.17-5.30%) among the different promising accessions. |
