dc.description.abstract | Aquaculture is the fastest growing food producing sectors in the world. In 2018 about 46% of the global fish production was from aquaculture (FAO, 2020). The role of aquaculture in providing quality protein to majority of the population as well as ensuring the nutritional security to the fish-eating population is immense. Increased price of feed ingredients especially protein sources like fish meal and soy meal has brought a sudden hike in the formulated feed price in the market which in turn increased the cost of production. Most of the research work in aquaculture sector in recent years are focusing on identification of suitable alternative protein source to reduce the cost of the formulated feeds and a number of new protein sources have proven their potential. However, scaling up the production of such new ingredients and use of these in commercial aqua feed production is scanty. | en_US |
