Abstract/Description: | The haematological parameters of Tho-Tho cattle were studied and compared with mithun (Bos frontalis) and Assam local cattle (Bos indicus). The haemoglobin content of female and male Tho-Tho cattle was significantly higher than that of the Assam local cattle and mithun. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate was significantly different between Tho-Tho cattle, mithun and Assam local cattle. Erythrocyte count and neutrophil count was significantly higher in Tho-Tho cattle and mithun than in Assam local cattle. Total leukocyte count was significantly lower in Tho-Tho cattle than in mithun and Assam local cattle. The results showed that Tho-Tho cattle were non-anaemic and had lower chances of acquiring chronic, parasitic and viral diseases than mithun and Assam local cattle. However, Tho-Tho cattle had higher susceptibility to bacterial diseases. |
