Abstract/Description: | Watershed projects were implemented to support rainfed agriculture in India since 1980s. Various ministries, departments, public and private agencies have been involved in its implementation. Guidelines for their implementation were revised several times to ensure accrual of maximum benefits to stakeholders. Comprehensive monitoring and evaluation tools were not available to ensure objective Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) of watershed projects leading to loss of funds in unviable projects. Methodology & tools were developed for this purpose in India using geospatial technique. The Watershed Development Monitoring & Evaluation Tool (WDMET) was constructed in four watersheds with differing geomorphic settings & data availability in Deccan Plateau region in India. WDMET is a DSS to help in objective review of watershed projects by Project Implementing Agency (PIA) during the program and by evaluators in post-implementation phase. The DSS provides cost-effective means to monitor and evaluate watershed projects at multiple levels at various scales. |
