Abstract/Description: | Considerable savings in water can be achieved by adoption of sprinkler, drip/ sprinkler (micro) irrigation systems in water scarcity areas, having conditions conducive to their application. Further, 10-16 % more area is available for crops as channels and ridges are not required. Drip fertigation is an efficient and useful tool of water application which has proved its advantage over the other conventional system of irrigation, especially in field crops owing to precise and direct application of water and nutrient in root zone. Water saving in various crops from drip irrigation ranges from 5 to 68% over the traditional method and increase in crop yield from 10 to 50%. Irrigation efficiency in drip irrigation is about 90% as compared to about 65% in sprinkler irrigation and 35-50% in lined distribution of conventional method of irrigation |
