| Abstract/Description: | Paddy is the lifeline cereal of Andaman and Nicobar islands grown in 8549 ha of low-lying valley areas. Presently, the annual production of rice in the Islands is 26,249 t and average yield is only 2.2 t ha-1 necessitating an import of about 27,188 t of rice from the main land India. |
