Abstract/Description: | About the Book: Zoonoses: Parasitic and Mycotic Diseases Zoonotic diseases include a vast variety of infections that can be transmitted from vertebrate animals to human beings and vice versa directly or through vectors, water, food, or environmental sources. Parasites and mycotic agents constitute a large group of such pathogens that affect millions of people worldwide. Due to their ubiquitous nature, these pose a serious threat to public health, particularly in the developing countries because of inadequate public health and sanitation infrastructure. The present book "Zoonoses: Parasitic and Mycotic Diseases" elaborates the public and livestock health implications of important zoonotic helminthic, protozoan and fungal pathogens particularly in context with the developing countries. Detailed descriptions coupled with beautifully presented illustrations in the book provide excellent comprehension of these diseases and the associated human-animal-pathogen-environment interactions in a simple and interesting manner. The students teachers, public health professionals, veterinary practitioners and planners will find the book very useful in understanding the dynamics of parasitic and mycotic zoonoses and in evolving intervention strategies for their prevention, control and elimination.
