dc.description.abstract | DEALS WITH STUDIES ON RAINFALL FEATURES AT OOTACAMUND IN THE NILGIRIS . EIGHT YEARS DATA AVAILABLE AT THE SOIL CONSERVATION RESEARCH FARM INDICATED THAT OUT OF THE ANNUAL AMOUNT OF THE RAINFALL , 93% IS DISTRIBUTED AMONG THE TWO MAIN MONSOONS AND OCCASIONAL SHOWERS DURING APRIL AND MAY , SUSTAINING THE TWO RAINFED CROPS. PRE- MONSOON RAINS ARE IMPORTANT FOR THE MAIN POTATO CROP DURING THE INITIAL STAGES. JULY RAINFALL IS HAZARDOUS TO THE SOIL BY CAUSING RUNOFF AND EROSION AND TO THE CROP BY OVER SATURATION OF SOIL MOISTURE. DISTRIBUTION OF DAILY RAINFALL AND NUMBER OF RAINY DAYS OVER MONTHS AND UNDER VARIOUS CLASS INTERVALS INDICATED THAT THE DISTRIBUTION OF RAIN IN THE YEAR AND THE EFFECTIVENESS OF MOISTURE ARE FAVOURABLE | en_US |
