dc.description.abstract | The need was felt to generate a module for trainers as the rural population is still facing health problems due to use of contaminated water and they are also unaware about how the water can be made suitable for human consumption. The entire ecosystem is based on water. It runs like blood in our body, but nowadays this blood is impure and short in supply. This is due to the fact of contamination of water with pollutants. People in several parts of India face an immense challenge to meet the basic needs of water. The crisis are not due to the lack of fresh water as such, but the availability of adequate potable water at the right place and right time to meet basic needs. Water is most essential but scarce resource in our country. Water is essential to sustain life, and a satisfactory (adequate, safe and accessible) supply must be available to all. Improving access to safe drinking-water can result in tangible benefits to health. Every effort should be made to achieve a drinking-water quality as safe as practicable. Vulnerable group is at greatest risk of waterborne disease i.e. the elderly, debilitated or people who are living under insanitary conditions. Safe drinking-water is suitable for all usual domestic purposes, including personal hygiene. Every year more than five million human beings die from illness linked to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation practices. Improved access to safe water supply and appropriate sanitation can also improve the economic status, mainly through saving large amount of people’s time and energy as well money. It is a matter of concern that despite the progress made with water supply, the level of water-related sickness continues to be high. Seventy to eighty percent of illnesses are related to water contamination and poor sanitation. In India, the economic burden due to these diseases is staggering. The resources saved by improved water supply and sanitation can be used in many economically productive activities. Moreover the water techniques to conserve water have not reached up to a desired extent to rural masses. It is well known fact that clean water and availability of water is also absolutely essential for healthy living. Probe on measures to mitigate health disorders indicate that rural people need technical training in a phased manner on available techniques and technologies, conservation of water and water management practices for better health. Moduler training is an effort made in the direction of building capacity amongst middle and grass root level functionaries for handling the issues related to water resource management practices in a programmed way for rural people. | en_US |
