Abstract/Description: | EFFECT OF LOSS OF TOPSOIL ON THE YIELD OF MAIZE ( RAINFED)- WHEAT ( IRRIGATED WAS STUDIED ) ON DEEP SILT LOAM SOILS OF DEHARDUN FROM 1977 TO 1980 UNDER HIGH LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT . THERE WAS SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN THE YIELD OF TOPSOIL WITH FIRST FIVE CROPS GROWN IN SEQUENCE. THE REDUCTION WAS MORE PRONOUNCED WITH REMOVAL OF SURFACE LAYERS AS COMPARED TO LOWER DEPTHS. ON AN AVERAGE , MAIZE GRAIN YIELD DECREASED FROM 3576 TO 1499 kg/ha AND WHEAT YIELD FROM 5112 TO 4336 kg/ha. |
