dc.description.abstract | N THE PAPER PRESENTS RESULTS OF A STUDY CONDUCTED DURING 1990-1993 WITH MAIZE , SESAME, BLACKGRAM, GREENGRAM AS INTERCROPS IN REDGRAM GROWN IN SINGLE ROWS SPACED 60 cm APART AND PAIRED ROWS SPACED 45cm WITH DISTANCE OF 90 cm BETWEEN TWO SETS OF PAIRED ROWS. MINIMUM RUNOFF AND SOIL LOSS WAS RECORDED WITH GREENGRAM AS INTERCROP. ON AN AVERAGE INTERCROPS REDUCED RUNOFF BY 11 AND 15% AND SOIL LOSS BY 20 AND 23 % OVER PURE REDGRAM IN SINGLE AND PAIRED ROWS SYSTEM, RESPECTIVELY. BLACKGRAM AND GREENGRAM WHEN RAISED AS INTERCROPS GAVE THE HIGHEST REDGRAM EQUIVALENT IN BOTH THE SYSTEMS OF PLANTING. THE CROP PERFORMANCE RATIOS ( CPRs) WERE LESS THAN UNITY. THE NET RETURNS FROM ALL THE INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER. | en_US |
