| Abstract/Description: | STUDIES CONDUCTED DURING 1978-79 AND 1979-80 ON VERTISOLS , OF BELLARY ABOUT THE FEASIBILITY OF 300% INTENSITY CROPPING REVEALED THAT BAJRA-COWPEA- JOWAR AND BAJRA- CORIANDER- JOWAR TRIPLE CROP COMBINATIONS GAVE NET RETURNS OF RS 10,188 AND RS 9846 PER ha CORRESPONDING TO 30.2 AND 22.8% INCREASE IN NET RETURNS COMPARED TO RS 7826 PER ha WITH THE ESTABLISHED DOUBLE CROP SEQUENCE OF MAIZE - SAFFLOWER. THIS TRIPLE CROPPING IS A LABOUR INTENSIVE PRACTICE AND COULD BE ADOPTED BY THE SMALL AND MARGINAL FARMERS TO IMPROVE THEIR ECONOMIC STATUS. |
