| Abstract/Description: | A STUDY ON THE CULTIVATION OF IRRIGATED GROUND NUT IN THE VERTISOLS AND ITS IMPACT ON SOIL PROPERTIES WAS UNDERTAKEN AT THE FARM DURING THE YEARS 1977-79. THE RESULTS REVEALED THAT WITH THE PASSAGE OF TIME , THE SOILS GET NATURALLY AMELIORATED WITH THE TUNGABHADRA WATERS HAVING A LOW SALT CONTENT (157ppm) AND LOW SAR (1.24) . THE FAVOURABLE EFFECTS OF THE APPLICATION OF GYPSUM ON SOIL STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES TO HAVE BECOME INSIGNIFICANT BECAUSE OF THE VERY GOOD QUALITY OF IRRIGATION WATER. THE STUDIES FURTHER REVEALED THAT GROWING GROUND NUT OVER 2-3 SEASONS , HAS IMPROVED CONSIDERABLY THE STRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF THE SOILS. |
