| Abstract/Description: | THE PAPER DISCUSSES THE RESULTS OF A FIELD TRIAL CONDUCTED IN 1970 WITH FOUR JOWAR ENTRIES(CSH-1, SWARNA , 5-4-1 AND M 35-1) AND TEN DATES OF SOWING AT 10 DAYS INTERVALS ( AUGUST 12 TO NOV 10) AND SHOOTFLY INCIDENCE STUDIED FOR FOUR TIMES AFTER SOWING ( 7,14,21 AND 28 DAYS). 5-4-1 WAS FOUND TO BE THE LEAST SUSCEPTIBLE VARIETY; ADVANCING THE SOWING DATE TO SEPTEMBER 21 FROM THE TRADITIONAL OCTOBER SOWINGS WOULD ENSURE INCREASED YIELDS EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT ENTAIL A MEAGRE 3% HIGHER SHOOTFLY INCIDENCE AND PEAK SHOOTFLY INCIDENCE WAS SEEN BETWEEN 14th AND 21st DAYS AFTER THE EMERGENCE OF SEEDLINGS. |
