| Abstract/Description: | STUDIES WERE CONDUCTED AT BELLARY ON THE ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY OF 200% INTENSITY CROPPING WITH MAIZE , BAJRA, AND SETARIA AS FIRST CROPS SOWN IN JULY WITH THE RELEASE OF TUNGABHADRA WATER IN THE HIGH LEVEL CANAL, FOLLOWED BY SAFFLOWER , GRAM, SUNFLOWER AND WHEAT IN THE SECOND SEASON. RESULTS REVEAL THAT OF THE DIFFERENT CEREAL- LEGUME OILSEED CROP SEQUENCE , NET RETURNS OF RS 8478 AND RS 6714 /ha COULD BE REALIZED WITH MAIZE GRAM AND MAIZE- SAFFLOWER DOUBLE CROPPING COMBINATIONS WITH BENEFIT - COST RATIO WORKING OUT TO 4.24 AND 3.44 , RESPECTIVELY. NET RETURNS WERE LOWEST ( RS 1767/ha) WITH BENEFIT- COST RATIO BEING AS LOW AS 1.69 WITH SETARIA - SUNFLOWER CROP COMBINATION. |
