| Abstract/Description: | THE PAPER DISCUSSES THE MAINTENANCE ASPECT OF VARIOUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION STRUCTURES CONSTRUCTED IN RAVINES OF VASAD ( GUJARAT REGION) . IT HAS BEEN FOUND THAT AN AMOUNT EQUIVALENT TO 3% OF THE INITIAL COST WOULD BE REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN AND STABILIZE THE STRUCTURES DURING THE FIRST TWO YEARS . TERRACES, BUNDS, GULLY PLUGS, COMPOSITE CHECK DAMS AND PIPE OUTLETS ACCOUNT FOR 62.4, 15.3, 11.1, 1.9% OF THE TOTAL MAINTENANCE CAN EASILY BE MET OUT FROM THE SALE OF GRASSES AND FIREWOOD PRODUCED IN TREATED RAVINES. |
