| Abstract/Description: | A TRIAL WAS CARRIED OUT AT DEHRADUN TO STUDY THE EXTENT OF DORMANCY TO REDUCE GERMINATION PERIOD AND SEED TREATMENT TO OVERCOME PROBLEMS IN THE GERMINATION OF GREWIA OPTIVA. RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE SEEDS COLLECTED IN OCTOBER- NOVEMBER FROM THE FIRST FLUSH CLEANED AND STORED FOR 33 -38 WEEKS PROVIDE GOOD GERMINATION. THE HARD SEED COAT NEEDS SCARIFICATION WITH 50% DILUTED SULPHURIC ACID FOR 60 MINUTES WITH OR WITHOUT SOAKING IN WATER FOR 24 HOURS. THE GERMINATION IN THESE TREATMENTS INITIATE IN ABOUT 2-3 DAYS REACH PEAK BY 4-9 DAYS OF SOWING. THE MAXIMUM GERMINATION HOWEVER DID NOT EXCEED 40% |
