| Abstract/Description: | A SMALL GULLY WITH THE GULLIED AREA OF 0.21 ha OPEN TO BIOTIC INTERFERENCE WAS SELECTED IN VILLAGE UMRETHA, AGRA IN THE YEAR 1971 TO MONITOR THE RATE OF GULLY HEAD EXTENSION AND GULLIED AREA ENGULFING THE SIDE BY THE VILLAGE AND AGRICULTURAL FIELDS. THE DATA COLLECTED OVER THE YEARS 1971-84 INDICATED THAT IN 13 YEARS , THE LENGTH , DEPTH AND PERIMETER OF GULLY INCREASED TWO TO TWO AND A HALF TIMES AND THE GULLIED AREA INCREASED TO FOUR TIMES THE INITIAL AREA. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT UNPROTECTED RAVINE IN AGRA REGION EXTENDS TOWARDS AGRICULTURAL LAND AT AN ALARMING RATE OF 22% PER YEAR. |
