dc.description.abstract | RESULTS OF INVESTIGATIONS ON RUNOFF, SOIL LOSS ACCUMULATION OF LEAF LITTER AND TIMBER YIELD UNDER NATIVE VEGETATIVE COVER AND PLANTATION OF EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS ( BLUEGUM) ARE PRESENTED . THERE WAS NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE IN RUNOFF BETWEEN DIFFERENT FOREST COVERS THOUGH A MIXED PLANTATION OF BLUEGUM AND BLACK WATTLE ( ACACIA MEARNSII) GAVE LESS RUNOFF. LITTER PRODUCTION WAS NEARLY THE SAME ( 2.315 tonnes/ha/year) IN BOTH NATIVE SHOLA FORESTS AND EUCALYPTUS PLANTATIONS. MIXED PLANTATION OF BLUEGUM AND WATTLE IS PREFERABLE TO PURE PLANTATION FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION AS WELL AS WOOD PRODUCTION. | en_US |
