dc.description.abstract | THE POTENTIAL OF A SEVERELY ERODED 1.52 HA HILLY FOREST WATERSHED AT OPERATIONAL RESEARCH PROJECT , SUKHOMAJRI WAS EVALUATED IN TERMS OF PRODUCTION OF TREES AND GRASSES FROM CATCHMENT AND FIELD CROPS FROM 2 HA OF COMMAND AREA. RAINWATER WAS HARVESTED BY CONSTRUCTING AN EARTHEN DAM AND STORED WATER WAS USED FOR SUPPLEMENTAL IRRIGATION. DUE TO VARIOUS MEASURES, THERE WAS CONSIDERABLE INCREASE IN THE GROWTH OF TREE AND GRASS SPECIES IN THE WATERSHED. THE PROGRAMME WAS ECONOMICALLY VIABLE AND PROMPTED THE LOCAL FARMERS TO PROTECT THE FOREST WATERSHEDS TO WHICH THEY WERE DENUDING EARLIER. | en_US |
