dc.description.abstract | A FIELD POND CONSTRUCTED AT KOTA ( RAJASTHAN) HAS BEEN LINED BY USING HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT HIGH DENSITY POLYETHELENE (HMWHDPE) FILM OF 500 GAUGE TO MINIMISE SEEPAGE LOSS. THE LINING PROCEDURE EVOLVED IS SIMPLE AND CAN BE EASILY ADOPTED WHERE PONDS ARE DUG BY MANUAL LABOUR. THE SEEPAGE LOSS BEFORE LINING WAS AS HIGH AS 45 CM/DAY. AFTER LINING WITH HMWHDE FILM, THE LOSS WAS OBSERVED TO BE IN THE ORDER OF 0.6 TO 2.0 CM/DAY MAKING THE LINING 95 TO 98% EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING SEEPAGE LOSS. LINING WITH HMWHDPE IS LESS EXPENSIVE WHEN COMPARED TO OTHER MATERIALS EG CEMENT CONCRETE 5 CM THICK IS RS 10.10/ SQ M. | en_US |
