| Abstract/Description: | Sesame is the oldest indigenous oilseed crop, with longest history of cultivation in India. The country ranks first in area (1900 thousand ha) under sesame and earned Rs. 1510 crore through sesame export. In the recent past, the international demand and market for sesame has witnessed substantial growth. Sesame is quality edible oil, food, biomedicine and health care, all in one. Due to the presence of lignans and tocopherol sesame has remarkable antioxidant function. |
