dc.description.abstract | IN THE PRESENT STUDY , EIGHT NEWLY CONSTRUCTED CRATE WIRE ( GABION) CHECKDAMS IN THE CATCHMENT OF BUNGA II DAM IN AMBALA DISTRICT OF HARYANA WERE SELECTED . RETENTION CAPACITY OF EACH CHECKDAM AT THE TIME OF CONSTRUCTION AND THE REDUCTION IN CAPACITY DUE TO DEPOSITION OF SEDIMENT AFTER FIRST YEAR AND SECOND YEAR MONSOON WAS WORKED OUT. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT WITHIN TWO YEARS SIX STRUCTURES LOST NEARLY 50% OR MORE OF THEIR CAPACITY DUE TO SEDIMENT. THESE STRUCTURES RETAINED ABOUT 23 HA CM SEDIMENT IN THE CHANNEL ITSELF WHICH OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE LOST VALUABLE WATER STORAGE CAPACITY OF THE POND. | en_US |
