dc.description.abstract | The present study investigated the genetic distance using SSR primers for 84 restorer and 32 CMS lines augmented from USDA, USA along with popular Indian restorer and CMS lines. Thirty nine polymorphic SSR primers produced 139 alleles with an average of 3.56 alleles per locus. The polymorphic information content ranged from 0.23 to 0.69 with an average of 0.45. Genetic distance between 84 R lines was 0.45 with a range of 0.19 to 0.59 and for CMS lines it was 0.42 with the range of 0.33 to 0.53. Dendrogram constructed based on the dissimilarity coefficient matrix, grouped the CMS and R lines into separate clusters. Cluster A consisted of all CMS lines along with five R lines. Eighty four restorer lines were divided into seven clusters. Cluster number R2, R3 and R7 were large groups with 16, 20 and 17 lines respectively. Three sets of mitochondrial primers (BOX, EIRC and REP) produced eight clusters for 32 CMS lines. There is considerable genetic diversity among R lines and CMS lines. Seventy eight R lines and 28 CMS lines of popular public hybrids of USDA-ARS,UAS along with their respective maintainer lines have established well to Indian environment.
