| Abstract/Description: | Tobacco seed contains about 35 to 40% oil and the refined oil is being used for edible purposes in Turkey and Tunisia (Chari, 1995). It satisfies most of the nutritional requirements for edible purposes (Thakur et al., 1998). To make tobacco as an oil seed crop, there is a need to improve the seed yield as well as oil content through genetic manipulations and input modulations. The present day tobacco cultivars, directed for leaf yield, may not be suitable for high seed yield. Hence, there is a need to develop specific varieties endowed with appropriate plant frame and ideotype for maximizing seed and oil yield. The present study is proposed to find out suitable cross combination for higher seed and oil yield. |
