Abstract/Description: | Judged from the magnitude of the oil sardine catches constituting over 20% of the total marine fish landings in India during some years (Table I), the importance of this eryfish particularly along the Kerala and Mysore coasts can hardly be overestimated. The oil sardine fishery is known for the serious set-backs it had suffered at irregular intervals during the last few decades (Nair and Chidambaram, 1951; Nair, 1958), but the revival of the fishery, especially during the late fifties and early sixties, has been remarkable. |
