Abstract/Description: | The study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence of peste-des-petits-ruminants virus in Karnataka, India. 2195 serum samples were collected from different parts of Karnataka and assayed for the presence of antibodies against PPR virus using c-ELISA. Results revealed that the overall prevalence of PPR in small ruminants in Karnataka was 36.88%. The mean prevalence in sheep was 36% (418 out of 1172) and that in goats was 38.22% (391 out of 1023). The prevalence was observed more in goats than in sheep. The antibodies against PPR was higher in 1-2 years old (49.57%) than the other age groups (35.12 to 39%). The prevalence of PPR was 41.62% in >3 years old sheep and 28.31-40.69% in other age groups. It is concluded that goats are more susceptible to PPR virus than sheep. |
