Abstract/Description: | Investigations on safflower aphid, Uroleucon carthami H.R.L multiplication on different varieties of safflower (Carthami tinctorius L.) and alternate hosts were carried out at Directorate of Oilseeds Research,Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during 2005. There was increase in aphid population with increase in time on safflower varieties and other alternate hosts. Among safflower varieties the moderately resistant varieties (A-I, Bhima and JSI-99) had relatively low aphid population and multiplication index compeered to susceptible variety (CO-I). Among alternate hosts all the three varieties of niger had higher aphid population and mUltiplication index compared to groundnut, sunflower, Glyricidia maculate, Parthenium hysterophorus and Euphorbia geniculata. Lowest multiplication index of aphids was recorded on P. hysterophorus. |
