dc.description.abstract | Heaps of organic wastes are the common site in the modernized cities and amongst major source of land pollution. It not only degrades the environment, but also pose a serious threat to human life. This organic waste lying in and around the residences acts as breeding ground for many bacteria and other harmful micro-organisms and result in spread of many dreadful diseases. If the organic waste is managed effectively, it becomes useful manual for the plants. Vermi composting is the effective technology which is helpful in converting organic waste into useful fertilizer. Vermi composting is the process by which earth worms are used to convert organic waste into a humus-like material which is fertile manure for the plants. Earthworms live in the soil; they mix it and make it porous as they help decompose the soil organic matter. Vermi composting can easily be done at household level in the backyard. | en_US |
