Abstract/Description: | Vegetables are essential components of the human diet worldwide and are rich in vital life- sustaining nutrients, minerals, and fibres. Given the importance of vegetable crops in promoting good health, there is a need to enhance food and nutritional security. The rising global population, resource scarcity, and unpredictable weather have necessitated smarter agriculture for food security. Thus, the Internet of Things (IoT) and data analytics are improving agricultural efficiency and productivity. With rapid advancements in computing capabilities, data science can now significantly enhance various dimensions of vegetable crop production. Through advances in artificial intelligence and remote sensing, data science is used to analyze large amounts of field-level data to improve crop assessment and develop tools for better management and resilience of farming systems. This may help to ensure food security and formulate policies for a growing population. This article explores data science's present and future potential applications in improving vegetable crops, which can help create a better road map for future generations. |
