Complete Details of Technology: :
Pochonia chlamydosporia is a fungus that can colonize the rhizosphere without causing lesions to the plants or affecting plant growth. It is a notable facultative parasite of eggs of sedentary cyst and root-knot nematodes and is one of the most studied potential biological control agents of nematodes. Several Pochonia species have even been reported to show endophytic behaviour, which may result in benefits to the host plant defense against soil-borne pathogens. In the present day crop production, farmers/ growers overly depend on P. chlamydosporia formulations with good shelf life, low application rates and would possibly prefer targeted delivery of the fungus to crops. However, the success of such formulations will depend on the method of mass culturing of P.chlamydosporia in the laboratory, nutrient sources to increase sporulation, shelf life and storage conditions.
Brief Description of Technology Including Salient Features:
Benefits/Utility :
Shelf life more than a year The product can be used for the management of nematodes in horticultural crops
Precaution With The Technology : Mouth and nose mufflers to safeguard the Technicals/workers at the time of application
Time Of Application Use : April-May and September-October
How To Use :
1 mL of the product diluted to 1000mL Application- Drenching to crop base
Impact, If Adopted :
Recently there is high concern towards the environmental issues arising out of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides.. Biological control potential and plant growth promoting traits of a microbe provides an alternative to synthetic pesticides and chemical fertilizers and such beneficial microbes are ideal candidates in sustainable agricultural production.
Social Impact :
Nematode management thereby yield increase Farmers/ growers can depend on the developed P. chlamydosporia formulation with improved shel life, low application rates and with targeted delivery of the fungus to crops for nematode management.
Technology Spread :
Black pepper, ginger, turmeric and cardamom growing tracts in Kerala, Karnataka andTamil Nadu
TargetUsers/Stake holders : Farmers, Planters, Agriculture/ horticulture departments of State Governments, biopesticide industries
