Technical Programme Finalization Workshop of AICRPAM-NICRA held at Dr BSKKV, Dapoli

The annual workshop of AICRPAM component of NICRA project was held at Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli during 22-23 May 2017. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr Tapas Bhattacharya, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Dr BSKKV, Dapoli. Dr K Sammi Reddy, Acting Director (ICAR-CRIDA), Dr SK Dhyani, Principal Scientist from NRM Division, ICAR, Dr M Prabhakar, PI (NICRA) and Dr UV Mahadkar, Director of Research (Dr BSKKV, Dapoli) attended the function as guests of honour. Scientists from all cooperating centers and coordinating unit of AICRPAM and experts from CRIDA participated in the workshop. The inaugural function started with the brief description about the objectives of the workshop by Dr P Vijaya Kumar, Project Coordinator (AICRPAM). Dr M Prabhakar emphasized the need for developing quantifiable indicators for effective monitoring and up-scaling of agromet advisories for next three years. Dr SK Dhyani highlighted the importance of agromet advisories in saving irrigation water, fertilizer and plant protection chemicals, which will help in achieving the target of doubling the farm income by 2022. Dr UV Mahadkar stressed on the need for developing micro-level agromet advisories for horticultural crops. Dr Sammi Reddy pointed out the need for improving visibility of achievements made so far under the project among the farmers and other stakeholders through mass media. He further suggested to fine tune technical program keeping in mind the reduced budget. In his presidential address, Dr Tapas Bhattacharya informed the delegates that BSKKV University has developed climate resilient mango, cashew and rice villages. During the finalization of technical program, it was decided to extend the micro-level agromet advisory services to selected AICRPDA-NICRA villages and TDC-NICRA villages across the country. Dr M Osman (Co-PI, TDC-NICRA) from CRIDA deliberated on various issues for implementation of proposed technical program at AICRPAM cooperating centers.
