dc.description.abstract | Yellow Stem Borer (YSB), Scirpophaga incertulas (Walker) is the most predominant pest of rice causing serious damage to the crop in rice growing tracts of India, Bangladesh and South East Asian countries. It damages the rice plants from seedling to maturity, in all ecosystems. Beside YSB, rice gundhi bug is also an important pest of rice. The present investigation is aimed at generating information on efficacy of some insecticides against prevailing pests in rice. The field research trial was conducted during dry season, 2013 and 2014 in the research farm of National Rice Research Institute, Cuttack. The trial was laid out in randomized block design with three replicatons in variety Jaya. To study the efficacy of nine insecticide formulations, treatments were applied at 45 and 75 days after transplanting alongwith untreated control. Results of the experiment revealed that fipronil 5% (Tzed) @ 1000 ml/ha was the best insecticide with yield of 6.3 and 5.75 t/ha during 2013 and 2014 respectively was at par with bifenthrin 10% (Marker) @ 500 ml/ha, quinalphos 25% (Ekalux) @ 1500 ml/ha in increasing the grain yield and reducing dead heart, white ear head and gundhi bug damage. All the tested insecticides i.e. fipronil (Tzed) 5% @ 1000 ml/ha, bifenthrin 10% (Marker) @ 500 ml/ha, quinalphos 25% (Ekalux) @ 1500 ml/ha, dimethoate 30% (Tafgor) @ 830 ml/ha, imidacloprid 17.8% (Maharaja) @ 300 ml/ha, lambda cyhalothrin 2.5% (Cheeta) @ 500 ml/ha, thiamethoxam 25% (Kemstar) @ 100 ml/ha, flubendiamide 39.35% (Fame) @ 50 ml/ha, acephate 75% (Hythene) @ 1000 ml/ha were very effective against stem borer and gundhi bug. | en_US |
