dc.description.abstract | Rice is the most important cereal crop with maximum contribution to the global food requirements. In India, 6.74 m ha of land are salt affected. Therefore, there is a great need to breed salt tolerant rice varieties so that the farmers of that area can get benefitted by cultivating the tolerant varieties under the salt affected soils in India. The variety CSR56 was developed from a cross, CSR 21/CSR 10 by the ICAR-Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal. The variety was evaluated under salt stress situation in trials conducted by the All India Coordinated Research Project on rice through Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad during 2014 to 2016. The variety CSR56 performed better over the best check in Alkaline and Inland Saline Testing Varietal Trail (AL&ISTVT) across the salt affected locations of India. Based on its over all performance, it was identified for release by the Varietal Identification Committee (VIC) during 53rd Annual Rice Researchers Group Meeting, held on 14th April, 2018 at IIRR, Hyderabad for sodic soils of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. The variety was subsequently released by the “Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops (CVRC)” and notified by the Gazette Notification S.O. No. 6318(E) dated on the 26th December, 2018. | en_US |
