| Abstract/Description: | Chemokines are members of the cytokine family of regulatory proteins. They generally have low molecular weights, ranging from 7 to 15 kDa, and stimulate recruitment of leukocytes. Chemokines are secondary pro-inflammatory mediators, ie, they are typically induced by primary pro-inflammatory mediators such as interleukin-1 (IL-1) or tumor necrosis factor (TNF). The physiologic importance of this family of mediators is derived from their specificity. Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a prototypical member of the CXC chemokine family. The present study describes the PCR amplification of interleukin-8 (IL-8) encoding gene from the healthy Indian Dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius).
