Abstract/Description: | In the present dissertation, some aspects of multi-character studies have been examined. In sample surveys, interest more often lies in recording information on several characters form the same sampling units. Sometimes, information on all the characters may not be available from all sampling units, some sampling procedures, which can be used for this purpose under different circumstances, have been discussed. The technique of double sampling for stratification, with strata having same combination of characters has been examined and is found to perform better than standard technique of domain studies under a prevalent cost function constraint. In case of pps sampling only one measure of size is taken for the selection sample. In multi-character studies some of the characters of interest may have a poor correlation with the character used as a size measure for the selection. Rao (1966) considered some alternative estimators in different pps sampling scheme. In case, some characters, which are highly correlated with the study characters, are available, they may be used to provide better estimators of the population total. Some alternative estimators have been proposed and are found to perform better under the super population models.
