dc.description.abstract | Annatto (Bixa orellana) seed meal remained after extraction of dye and colour was analyzed for its chemical composition and dry matter disappearance using in-vitro and in-sacco techniques. The DM, OM, CP, EE, CF, NFE and TA content was 86.8, 94.8, 14.4, 2.0, 25.6, 52.9 and 5.2%, respectively. NDF, ADF, hemicellulose, lignin and silica content was 58.5, 24.5, 34.0, 14.4, 10.9 and 0.3%, respectively. The Ca, P, Mg, K and S content was 0.04, 0.7, 0.2, 1.1 and 0.4%, respectively. The Fe, Mn, Co, Zn and Mo content was 141.6, 56.86, 2.07, 131.6 and 203.3 ppm, respectively. The IVDMD was 61.4 per cent, when incubated with buffalo rumen liquor. In sacco studies revealed that the effective degrad-able DM and protein of annatto seed meal was 62.4 and 23.2 per cent, respectively. It was concluded that annatto seed meal could be tried as potential source of energy and by-pass protein in the rations of ruminants | en_US |
