dc.description.abstract | Endocrine disrupting chemicals such as alkylphenols (APs), polyhalogenated compounds, bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides have been detected worldwide in the surface water, sediment and biota of rivers, lakes and urban estuaries. EDCs that accumulate in water bodies and aquatic biota have been recognized as one of the leading cause of the decline in global fish population. Human are also potentially exposed to these EDCs, resulting in several degenerative diseases. The exposome is often a cocktail of multiclass EDCs present at a low concentration. Hence, the target list of EDCs for environmental monitoring must include a sufficiently elaborate list of multiclass compounds and the risk assessment should be carried out at the environmentally relevant concentration of the detected chemicals. | en_US |
