dc.description.abstract | Seed treatment plays a remarkable role in IPM toprotect the seed against pests and diseases. At presentnewer insecticides belonging to neonicotinoids andanthranilamide group serves as important seed treatmentinsecticides. In India chlorantraniliprole (Lumivia) wasregistered for use in corn but not found tried for rice. Thepresent experiment was carried out to see the effect ofchlorantraniliprole seed treatment on dead heart damagecaused by rice YSB. TN-1 the susceptible variety was usedand treatment comprised of seed treatment withchlorantraniliprole @ 0.5,1.0,2.0,4.0 g a.i./ha along withuntreated control. YSB larvae were released on plants at40 days after treatment (DAT) and 55 DAT and recordedthe dead tillers and total tillers and calculated dead heartper cent using the formula; Dead heart per cent = (Deadtillers/total tillers)*100. It was found that in both thetreatment sets (40 and 55 DAT) dead heart per cent inuntreated control (30.52-75.83) was significantly morecompared to plants from insecticide treated (4.05 -2.43)seeds (Fig4&5). Also tried the possibility of using 1%potassium silica as a solvent instead of water and foundthat even mere 1% K2SiO3 seed treatment shown lesserdead heart (22.41-46.17) compared to untreated control(30.52-75.83) and also insecticide seed treatment hadlesser dead heart per cent compared to untreated control(Fig. A). Thus seed treatment with the newer insecticidemolecule chlorantraniliprole protects the rice crop at theirearlier stage from dead heart damage caused by YSB. | en_US |
