dc.description.abstract | I. Long term fertilizer studies in soybean-safflower cropping system 2009-10: Rainfall received during the entire cropping season was 992 mm. Soybean crop was failed due to the one month dry spell immediately after sowing. Seed yield of safflower was significantly influenced due to fertilizer treatments. The seed yield of safflower was significantly low with no fertilizer to both the crops; NPK to soybean and 50% NPK + 5t FYM/ha to safflower; NPK to soybean and 50% NPK + Azotobacter + PSB application to safflower. All other treatments were found to be on par to each other. The highest seed yield of safflower was recorded with the treatment of NPK to soybean and NPK + 5 t FYM/ha to safflower. 2010-11: During cropping season, an amount of 1122 mm of rainfall was received. Productivity of soybean was significantly influenced due to fertilizer treatments. The seed yield of soybean was significantly low under no fertilizer application. All other treatments were found to be on par to each other. Productivity of safflower was significantly influenced due to fertilizer treatments. The seed yield of safflower was significantly low under no fertilizer application to both the crops; NPK to soybean and N to soybean; NPK to soybean and 50% NPK + 5t FYM/ha to safflower; NPK to soybean and 50% NPK + Azotobacter + PSB application to safflower. The seed yield of safflower was significantly greater with the application of NPK to soybean and NPK + FYM 5t/ha; NPK to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower; NPK + safflower residues to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower than that of all other treatments. 2011-12: During cropping season, an amount of 478 mm of rainfall was received. Productivity of soybean was not significantly influenced due to fertilizer treatments. Productivity of safflower was significantly influenced due to fertilizer treatments. The seed yield of safflower was significantly low under no fertilizer application to both the crops. The seed yield of safflower was greater with the application of NPK to soybean and NPK + FYM 5t/ha; NPK to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower; NPK + safflower residues to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower than that of all other treatments. Soil respiration, microbial biomass C and N, mineral N and net N mineralization were found to be significantly greater with the application of NPK to soybean and NPK + FYM 5 t/ha to safflower; NPK to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower; and NPK + safflower residues to soybean and NPK + soybean residues to safflower than that of all other treatments during the flowering stage of soybean. Similar trend was also observed with respect to Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and Trichoderma sp. during the flowering stage of soybean. Similar trend was also noticed during the stem elongation stage of safflower. To conclude that, application of recommended NPK + safflower crop residues to soybean and recommend NPK to safflower in soybean-safflower cropping system would maintain the productivity of the system besides improving the soil quality parameters. | en_US |
