Abstract/Description: COMPUTATION OF RAINFALL PERTAINING TO OOTACAMUND ( NILGIRIS) IS DISCUSSED . THE COMPUTING METHOD FOR DEVELOPING THE FREQUENCY LINE WITH ANNUAL MAXIMUM VALUE SERIES WAS FOUND CONVENIENT , SIMPLE AND LABOUR AND TIME SAVING.. THE FREQUENCY DISTRIBUTIONS OF ALL FEATURES STUDIED WERE FOUND TO BE FREE OF SKEWNESS. THE MAINFOLD APPLICABILITY OF THE FREQUENCY AND THE FIELD UTILITY OF FREQUENCY LINES WERE CONFIRMED. THE VARIATION IN THE ANNUAL AMOUNTS WAS LESS AS COMPARED TO THE SEASONAL ONES. THE RAINS WERE OBSERVED TO BE DEPENDABLE DURING THE NORTH- EAST MONSOON AND LESS RELIABLE DURING OTHER SEASONS.THE HIGHLY UNPREDICTABLE RAINS DURING THE DRY MONTHS ARE CRITICAL TO THE AGRICULTURE , PARTICULARLY WHEN THIS IS FOLLOWED BY LESS RELIABLE PRE- MONSOON RAINS. ASSURANCE PF SOIL MOISTURE DURING MARCH IS NECESSARY TO GIVE STABILITY TO AGRICULTURE IN THIS REGION.
