Abstract/Description: | Haemoparasitic diseases like trypanosomiasis have an adverse impact on health, productivity and working capacity of camels in many camel-rearing regions in the world. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), γ-glutamyl- transferase (GGT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) are important catabolic enzymes, which play an important role in liver function of animals. The activities of these enzymes were estimated in blood serum of Trypanosoma evansi infected camel. Thus, 15 parasitologically positive and as many clinically healthy blood samples were collected from organised camel farm. The results showed that there were signifi cant increase enzyme activities in blood serum of infected camels compared to that of clinically healthy camels. It seems that detection of ALT, AST, GGT and ALP activities in serum may be an alternative way to monitor the liver function of camels in respect to chronic infection. Therefore, this study is an initial step for studying the liver function through detection of these enzymes in serum. |
