| Abstract/Description: | RESULTS OF A FIELD EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED DURING 1981-85 TO IDENTIFY SUITABLE INTERCROPS WITH RABI SORGHUM AND OPTIMUM PROPORTION UNDER THE SEMI-ARID CONDITIONS OF KARNATAKA ARE PRESENTED. MAXIMUM YIELDS ( SORGHUM GRAIN EQUIVALENT) WERE RECORDED WITH PURE SORGHUM WHILE MINIMUM WITH PURE INTERCROPS . UNDER INTERCROPPING SYSTEMS, HIGHEST SORGHUM GRAIN YIELD EQUIVALENT WAS IN SORGHUM+ FIELD BEANS AND THE LOWEST IN SORGHUM+ CHICKPEA. HIGHEST AVERAGE GRAIN YIELD EQUIVALENT WAS RECORDED UNDER SOLE SORGHUM (1:0) (1591kg/ha) . FIELD BEANS WHEN GROWN AS INTERCROP IN 3:! RATIO , RESULTED IN HIGHEST MEAN YIELD INDEX (116.2) LER (1.16) AND MONETARY ADVANTAGE INDEX (5966). |
