Factors affecting Lac insect settlement

Abstract

Lac is the only source of resins of animal origin. Healthy lac insect secrets good quality and quantity of resin. A good settlement of lac insect at its initial stage can ensure a good harvest of the crop. Due to various factors, lac insect settlement does not take place properly, which seeks attention of researchers. In the present study, factors like improper packaging during transportation, damage of broodlac before inoculation, and placement site of broodlac were taken together to design an experiment in Randomized Block Design in factorial mode replicated five times. Findings suggested that improper packaging during transportation (36 hr.) reduced insect settlement 73%, while damage of broodlac during separation reduced settlement 30 %.
